Help us to help them
SOS Children’s Villages looks after orphaned and abandoned children and offers them a home, a family and an education. The work with the new SOS Children’s Village Valmiera in Latvia, which will become a home for around a hundred children, is well under way. We, at Cloetta Fazer, are supporting one of the houses in the village, the Dumle house. And you are able to help! For each bag of Dumle Original you buy during the next two years a part of the proceeds goes to the building work and support of children in the village.
The Dumle house will be home for between six and ten children without parents, both girls and boys. Here the children will be able to grow up in their new family together with their peers and the children’s village mother. The children’s village includes 12 houses that are expected to be ready for occupation at the end of 2007.
About Valmiera
The town of Valmiera, in the Vidzeme region of northern Latvia, has about 30 000 inhabitants. A pre-school, all-through compulsory school and a sports centre are to be found at walking distance from the children’s village. The municipality has donated the land where the children’s village is built and contributes to the village’s maintenance.
What SOS Children’s Villages are all about
SOS Children’s Villages looks after orphaned and abandoned children and offers them a home, a family and education. Since the start in Austria, back in 1949, SOS Children’s Villages has built children’s villages in no less than 132 countries. The organisation also runs schools, hospitals, social centres, vocational schools and young people’s hostels. SOS Children’s Villages is politically and religiously independent and works in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
SOS Children’s Villages works in a long-term perspective. Each family has a children’s village mother who is an essential person for the child’s personal development while each house is home to between six and ten children of varying ages. Biological brothers and sisters are never separated but always grow up together. All children who grow up in a children’s village receive all-through nine-year compulsory schooling, further education or vocational education.
The children’s village is the children’s new home to which they can always return, even when they have become adults and moved away from home. Exactly like any normal family.
